Lead Plant Technician

Description

AS&M has an exciting opportunity for a Lead Plant Technician to join the team in Hampton, Virginia, supporting the Maintenance Services group for the Center Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering (CMOE) contract at NASA Langley Research Center.

Perform pre- and post- test operations using a variety of fluid components and systems using different types of testing methods to support research operations in a safe and efficient manner.

Responsibilities

  • Provide directions and training to other plant technicians

  • Troubleshoot system and component failures/anomalies and recommend or make repairs

  • Will use a variety of hand and power tools, facility software and electronic monitoring devices

  • Maintain electronic logs to record significant and/or historical events

  • Plan and execute maintenance activities, complete Safe Plan of Action (SPA) forms, and Safety Observation Reports (SOR)

  • May be required to certify as a safety operator

  • Responsible for off-loading, storing, and pressurization of fluid consumables such as LN2, LOX, JP7, silane, methane, ethylene, R134, high pressure air, steam, etc.

  • Provides operational support to facility support system to process consumables

  • Provide support to research facilities as required

Qualifications

U.S. Citizenship required. Current certification levels of 1 or 2 at any of the supported operations facilities.

Must be able to effectively communicate requirements to other plant technicians and mentor same during training.

Work Environment

Office Environment (5%)

Test Environment - May be exposed to areas of high noise levels, hazardous propellants, explosives, chemicals, and industrial facilities. (85%)

Travel between various facilities and during test operations may be required, and may bring exposure to loud noise and potentially hazardous equipment operation (10%)

Physical Requirements

Visual and physical (hands on) contact of test related systems, hardware, articles. Must be able to walk, stand, bend, twist and sit for extended periods as well as climb, crawl, and lift up to 35lbs. (30%). Ability to distinguish basic colors (10%). Correct vision (100%). Hearing (100%). Lifting, carrying, exerting pressure up to 45lbs. (10%).

Appropriate PPE and training will be provided for all conditions.

Other Essential Functions

U.S. Citizenship required. A valid driver’s license is required. Must be able to work in a team atmosphere. Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety/risk hazard to the employee or others. The work environment requires the ability to cooperate and work with individuals at all levels of the company and the client.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance as required.
