Description
AS&M has an exciting opportunity for a motivated and experienced engineer to provide support for the NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC) Geometry Laboratory (GEOLAB) as a Grid Generation and Geometry Engineer. The NASA Langley Research Center’s Geometry Laboratory is a centralized resource for the generation of computational meshes to support CFD and the creation and modification of CAD geometry to support CFD and wind tunnel testing.
The grid generation and geometry engineer would be responsible for developing unstructured and structured surface and volume grids suitable CFD. Additionally, the ability to utilize CAD software to modify or build geometry would be a plus.
Responsibilities
The selected candidate would be able to work independently and in collaboration with other GEOLAB team members and customers to gather requirements, utilize commercial tools to develop suitable meshes, be able to examine and evaluate meshes for quality and compliance, and, if necessary, produce images and presentations of results. The candidate would be able to utilize commercial CAD tools to visualize and evaluate geometry quality, and potentially repair issues that would impede the gridding process.
Qualifications
Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required for this position.Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
Required Qualifications
B.S. in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Aeronautical Engineering, or Mathematics (with appropriate work experience), M.S. in the above fields desired.
Experience in aerospace, and mechanical applications desired.
Ability to communicate well to facilitate requirement gathering.
Command of general engineering.
Clear and effective written and oral communication skills.
Ability to be objective and unbiased.
Familiarity with the following software is highly desirable: Creo from Parametric Technologies, Seimens NX, Pointwise grid generation tools, Helden grid generation tools from Helden Aerospace, GeoMagic DesignX.
