Airflow around an aircraft affects its speed. Additionally, turbulence around an aircraft can seriously affect its performance and can be traced as a source of air disasters. Improved aircraft designs concentrate on reducing this drag due to turbulence. One of the tools aircraft designers increasingly rely on is the software simulation of airflow around the aircraft. Such a tool, which is based on computational fluid dynamics principles, finds immense potential to the designer in understanding the effects of several design changes on the aircraft performance. PAB3D is such a tool. PAB3D is one of the few codes available today that uses advanced turbulence models in the simulation of complex compressible three-dimensional flows. PAB3D requires less memory than most other three-dimensional codes.
